Our client, a Leading Bank, is looking for a Head of Litigation and Chief Legal Advisor, U.S. Wealth Management, to join their growing team.

Job Description
What is the opportunity?
As the Head of Wealth Management (WM) US Litigation, you will have responsibility and accountability for overseeing and managing pending and actual litigation and regulatory matters for our client’s US Wealth Management business segment on an individual and portfolio basis.  Managing this function includes providing advice and counsel to senior business leaders concerning, among other things, the impact of such litigation and the management of risk as well as overseeing a team of legal professionals.  You will also provide support to the Senior Vice President & Associate General Counsel (Global Head of Litigation & Employment Law), in the achievement of enterprise and our client’s Law Group strategic priorities in regard to all actual or potential, material litigious or regulatory matters on a forward-looking and proactive basis.  Finally, in addition to the Litigation responsibilities, you will serve as the primary legal advisor to the U.S. Wealth Management Executive Committee.
 
What will you do?
  • Set and execute strategy to manage litigation, arbitration and regulatory matters internally or through outside counsel, including drafting pleadings, discovery, depositions, briefs, settlements, court appearances, etc.
  • Provide legal advice, guidance and support to the US WM CEO, and broader US WM senior management team, to ensure that the legal, regulatory and reputational risks faced by US WM business are identified, reported and mitigated.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for US Wealth business relating to litigation/regulatory matters
  • Monitor litigation trends worldwide and assist senior business leaders to devise preventative and proactive steps to avoid litigation or financial or reputational loss.
  • Work with heads of business and functional partners to prepare and present accurate views of the material contingent risks associated with existing and potential litigation affecting our client and ensure appropriate internal and external testing of such reports.
  • Advise Corporate Communications and Investor Relations on public litigation and regulatory investigations to help manage reputational risk.
  • Oversee the selection and management of outside counsel in relation to disputes and investigations relating to the US WM business.
  • Conduct and manage internal investigations.
 
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • Law Degree and member in good standing of bar of U.S. state with a minimum of 15 years of legal experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing complex litigation and regulatory inquires
  • Minimum 5 years of experiencing managing other legal professionals
  • Direct experience negotiating complex agreements under tight deadlines
  • Deep understanding and/or experience in the financial services industry.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills
